and then when i wake up, everything that hurts me in the dream has hurt me in real life.

[ There's a loud THUMP! from inside as Gwen scrambles to her feet, pulling some pajama pants on before she heads to answer the door. She looks less sick than she did the last time the Doctor came over, but instead there are cuts on her face and arms, a black eye, a bloody nose, and handprint-shaped bruises encircling her neck. Her voice is rough and raw when she greets him. ]

Geez, Doc. Give a girl some notice next time. I would have cleaned up the place.

[ No she wouldn't have. She lets him in and closes the door behind him. Jeff comes scurrying over to greet the Doctor too, moaning happily. ]

[Ten gives Jeff a good pet/scratch on the head and a bone and lets himself in. He doesn't react openly on how someone looks but - could be worse]

I'd start to worry if you expected me.

[The Doctor pulls out a roll of bandages and a small bottle of disinfecting and some cotten balls. As for the tea that's last]

[ Hoo boy. She's grateful for the tea, but... ] So you came over to play nurse, huh?

[ Wouldn't it be more accurate to say he's playing doctor?

She sits down obediently in her desk chair, pouting. ]

[Though, Gwen may note that he's moving either carefully or he's wearing himself down. Ten takes out a few cotton balls and dabs the disinfect on that]

[ But she steels herself for the sting of the disinfectant anyway. ]

Don't worry. I've patched myself up enough times by now. Just because I lived in a comic book doesn't mean I have a healing factor.

[If he had his psychic abilities he'd ask about stepping into her mind as she sleeps so maybe he could help out but he can't]

[After, he thinks the wounds look clean begins to wrap up her limbs. Which Gwen might be able to sense how strong those hands are but are being used so gently]

[ Gwen just shrugs morosely, trying to downplay the severity of her problems. ]

It's mostly just reliving the time I died. Over and over again.

[That hits very close to home and she can try to downplay that as much as she wants but he knows after 11 regenerations how awful that is and if he was honest with himself, there's only one time The Doctor was accepting of his own death. The rest he's still having nightmares about dying and coming back to life.

Ten pulls Gwen close so she can feel his double heartbeats in a big warm hug and sturdy]

Suppose someone in this room understands that.

[ Oh. Okay. They're hugging now. Gwen is stiff at first, surprised by the sudden closeness. But the double heartbeat is kind of comforting, so she ultimately relaxes and wraps her arms around the Doctor in return. ]

Yeah... Yeah, I guess you would.

[It's okay. It's safe in his arms. He understands her pain, relieving your own death in your nightmares. Besides the love giving with his hearts, Gwen can also probably feel his own pain about the same subject. He can't help that - he hasn't had anyone that he trusts enough to say how their own deaths cause them nightmares and it's such a relief to find someone else like that. This is going to be a long hug feast.]

[ It's a nice, long hug, but eventually Gwen starts to feel sort of cramped and awkward. She pats the Doctor's back, signaling that she wants to let go. She's not really a physical intimacy (or any kind of intimacy) kind of person. ]
